Mortar & Pestle has filled prescriptions at 118 Main Street since 1962. Walter Brandt opened it. His granddaughter Hannah runs it now, compounds in the back room, and still answers the phone herself.

What we do

Everything a pharmacy should do, and a few things the big ones stopped doing.

One counter, two pharmacists, no phone tree. If you need something that isn't on this list, ask. The answer is usually yes, and if it's no, we'll tell you who to call instead.

Prescriptions

New scripts filled while you wait, most in under twenty minutes. We check interactions against everything you take, not just the bottles we fill.

Compounding

Made on site, to the dose your prescriber writes, in a form you can actually take. Liquids, creams, capsules, lozenges, and things that don't have a name yet.

Vaccines, walk in

Flu, COVID, shingles, pneumonia and Tdap, no appointment. Bring your insurance card; most are covered in full, and you leave with a record for your doctor.

Free delivery within 8 miles

Monday through Friday afternoons, to your door, in a paper bag with your name on it. Anything that needs the fridge rides in a cooler.

Med sync

We line up every refill to one pickup a month and call you the day before. Fewer trips, and no more running out on a Sunday night.

Pet meds

Dogs, cats, the occasional horse. Chicken-flavored liquids, transdermal gels for cats who refuse pills, and vet-strength doses at pharmacy prices.

Bring in a bottle, or just tell us the name of your current pharmacy. Your insurance, your refills remaining, the whole file comes with you. Nothing starts over.

  1. Tell us three things.

    Your name, your date of birth, and the pharmacy you're leaving. A bottle with a label on it is perfect. A phone call is fine. So is an email at 11 pm.

  2. We call your old pharmacy.

    You don't call anyone. We do the transfer pharmacist to pharmacist, and we run your insurance so there are no surprises at the counter.

  3. Pick up, or don't.

    Most transfers are ready the next business day. We text or call when they are, and if you're inside eight miles, we'll bring them to you for free.

The part people don't believe until it happens: you never have to call your old pharmacy. We do. That's the whole point of us.

Vaccines

Walk in. Roll up a sleeve. Ten minutes.

No appointment for the everyday ones. Bring your insurance card; most vaccines are covered in full, and we'll tell you the cash price before we open anything.

Either pharmacist can give them, and you'll leave with a record for your doctor and your own files.

Under 18? Call first so we can check what we're allowed to give at that age. Walk-in shots stop thirty minutes before close.

Compounding

If it isn't made, we make it.

Hannah trained in sterile and non-sterile compounding and built the lab in the back room in 2016. Send the script from any prescriber. If the dose needs a conversation, we'll call them, not you.

Most compounds are ready in two days. Refills you phone ahead are same day, and we'll text when it's on the shelf.

    Walter's granddaughter. Grew up counting to thirty behind this counter, left for pharmacy school and a hospital residency, came back in 2014 and bought the store from her grandfather in 2019. Ask her about the compounding lab only if you have the afternoon free.

    Twelve years in a hospital pharmacy before he decided he wanted to know his patients' names. Runs the vaccine clinic and the med-sync program, and will tell you plainly whether the supplement in your hand does anything.

Fifteen-minute consults are free and don't need an appointment. Bring every bottle you take, the vitamins included, and we'll go through the lot at the end of the counter.

Within 8 miles of the store, Monday to Friday, between 1 and 5 pm. Order by 11 am for same-day. No minimum, no fee, and anything refrigerated rides in a cooler with your name on it.

Outside the radius? We mail most maintenance medications for the cost of postage.
